(a collaboration with Asthmatic Kitty)
November 15th – December 6th
This November we have somewhat confusingly collaborated with Asthmatic Kitty to bring you Unusual Animals: a multi-disciplinary art showcase featuring a visual art show, a film screening, and musical performances. On Saturday the 15th of November there will be an opening reception for the visual art component of the collaboration at The Helm (open at 4PM). Participating artists include: Gala Bent (Seattle), Nicholas Nyland, Ellen Ito, and Zack Bent. Later that evening the music and film components will take place at Sean’s apartment. Headlining the night will be recently signed Asthmatic Kitty artist Grampall Jookabox (Indianapolis). He is currently on tour promoting his fantastic new album, Ropechain. Opening for him will be hidden local songwriter Allan Boothe and Alexander and the Optimistics (Sean and his group of singing voices). Should be a crazy house party. There will be a suggested donation of $5 for Grampall and beer. Please come out and enjoy a night of unusual fun. jeesh!
Born in 1999, Asthmatic Kitty Records was originally conceived as a platform for musical projects by a community of artists from Holland, Michigan, a small city on the shore of Lake Michigan. Some were Holland natives, and others had come to attend local colleges and universities. While the original Holland nucleus has now dispersed to various parts of the country, the fellowship is still growing, with new friends and shared projects with other independent labels. Asthmatic Kitty is now based in Lander, Wyoming, Indianapolis, Indiana and New York City.
Asthmatic Kitty was named after Sara, a voluptuous orange and white longhair who wandered out of the woods in 1995, pregnant, starving, and afflicted with various parasites and ailments, including feline asthma. Although she still wheezes a bit, especially when being chased by her sister Tabby, Sara today enjoys a healthy and happy life of luxury. Cast-off animals make the best pets!
